Religious sisters are needed worldwide who, through a witness of heroic holiness in action, will strive to make Jesus, who said, "I am the Truth," known, obeyed, and loved.
Canonesses (Sisters) in Jesus the Lord is a Public Association of the Faithful under the authority of Bishop James V. Johnston Jr. in the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph, based in Kansas City, Missouri, serving there and sending sisters to Vladivostok, Russia (and eventually other countries, too).
In 1991, soon after the fall of the Soviet Union, two priests from the United States, Fr. Myron Effing, CJD, and Fr. Daniel Maurer, CJD, arrived in Vladivostok to help re-establish the Catholic Church in eastern Russia.
When Mother Julia Kubista met Fr. Myron and Fr. Daniel in 2002, she asked them what they needed most in Russia. They said "Sisters." Mother Julia began Canonesses (Sisters) in Jesus the Lord in 2003 to help Mary lift the atheism that communism imposed on Russia, and reawaken the joy of the faith.
We invite women who are interested in religious life to come and join us, to share in our community's exciting work "to bring Jesus to people and people to Jesus" worldwide.
